This winter there will be a series of informal Zoom discussions and explorations about beekeeping today. The sessions will be led by beekeepers with an interest and involvement in each selected subject. They will introduce the topic and then encourage participation. The aim is to share and pass on current ideas and practical approaches that are relevant to local beekeepers.
All members of Avon Beekeepers will receive a Zoom link a few days before the session. We would encourage both the newest to the most experienced beekeepers to join in. The dates for each session and the topics are as follows:

GETTING THROUGH THE WINTER: Storing wax frames and supers; feeding and checking on stores; keeping an eye on colonies; coping with changes in the weather; coming out of winter and early spring. Thurs 19th Jan 2023 at 7.30pm WAX PROCESSING: How best to process wax and the various methods that are used; the difficulties involved and ways to overcome them; dealing with propolis – is it a curse or godsend? What to do with your wax. Thurs 23rd Feb 2023 at 7.30pm REDUCE ANXIETY BY PLANNING FOR THE SEASON AHEAD: What are the main things a beekeeper can be doing at the start of the season to overcome problems that can arise later that season; planning and the pitfalls. Thurs 23rd March 2023 at 7.30pm WHAT ABOUT QUEENS?: From spotting queens and marking them, to introducing and raising new queens simply and effectively and dealing with problem queens. |
